Baseball & Softball in the Race for OEC Titles

Baseball & Softball in the Race for OEC Titles

Chargers baseball and softball are heading into their last two games of the regular season in position to win OEC titles. Baseball is seeking their eighth conference title and softball is looking to capture a milestone twentieth conference title.

After baseball's disappointing loss on the road last week to Santa Ana, the Chargers find themselves in a tie with Golden West atop the OEC. Cypress baseball will travel to face Fullerton on Tuesday, April 21 at 2:00pm and close out the season at home against Fullerton on Thursday, April 23 at 2:00pm. The Chargers defeated the Fullerton Hornets for the State Championship in 2013, which was the first time in 76 years that two teams from the same conference played for a state title. Fullerton would like nothing more than to keep Cypress from claiming another conference title. Despite their struggles in conference this season, the Hornets have a 1-0 lead in the season series after defeating the Chargers in their first meeting earlier this season at Cypress College. If the Chargers win both games against Fullerton this week they are guaranteed a share of the OEC championship. If Cypress can win out and Golden West loses one of their remaining two games against Riverside then the Chargers will take full possession of the OEC championship.

Chargers softball has ridden a seven game conference winning streak to regain a one game lead in the OEC over Santa Ana. Cypress softball will travel to Saddleback College on Tuesday, April 21 at 3:00pm followed by a home game against Riverside on Wednesday, April 22 at 3:00pm to close out the season. Cypress and Saddleback College are 1-1 in the season series with the visiting team winning each matchup. As of late the Chargers have picked it up on offense after some midseason struggles, scoring double digit runs in five of their last nine games. They will rely on strong pitching performances and solid offense to close out the season and collect their twentieth conference championship all under the leadership of legendary coach Brad Pickler.
