Chargers Fall to Riverside 9-2

Cypress Calif. - The Cypress College baseball team (22-9, 11-5 OEC) was defeated by the visiting Riverside City College Tigers (19-12, 7-9 OEC) by a score of 9-2 on Saturday afternoon. 

Riverside got out to a quick 2-0 lead over the Chargers in the first inning with a two RBI single hit by Garrett Dean. The Tigers extended their lead with two more runs scored in the third, followed by another run in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead over Cypress heading into the fifth inning. The Tigers continued to dominate the game on offense in the fifth inning with a two run homer hit by Mason Fishback and then another two run homer in the top of the eighth by Brody Weiss to take a commanding 9-0 lead over the Chargers. Pitcher Tyler Rowe (3-2) pitched seven shutout innings for the Tigers, allowing only five hits, two walks, and collecting six strike outs before exiting the game. The Chargers were able to come up with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and avoid a shutout after a two RBI single hit by first baseman Tyler Gnesda

Despite the Chargers struggles on Saturday they find themselves atop of the Orange Empire Conference with five conference games remaining and will look to bounce back after this tough loss. Cypress baseball is back in action on the road Tuesday, April 14 at 2:00pm in a rematch with Riverside City College.
