Chargers Baseball Captures Second Straight OEC Win

Cypress Calif. - The Cypress College baseball team (16-6, 6-4 OEC) defeated the Saddleback Gauchos (15-6, 5-4 OEC) 4-1 on Saturday and moved up to third place in the conference.

The Chargers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with one run scored in the bottom of the second inning and another two runs in the third, highlighted by an Aaron Case RBI double. In the fourth inning, Saddleback was able to cut into the lead with a solo home run hit by third basemen Dan James. The Chargers answered in the bottom of the inning when first baseman Tyler Gnesda hit an RBI single scoring Jacob Perry to make it 4-1. Both teams would remain scoreless for the rest of the game and Cypress would go on to win 4-1. Pitcher John Forsythe (4-1) led the Chargers from the mound and is the first Charger this season to pitch a complete game. In nine innings Forsythe allowed seven hits, one run, zero walks, and collected six strike outs. Tyler Gnesda and Grant Mayeaux had two hits and one RBI each to lead Cypress from the plate.

Cypress baseball will return to action on Tuesday, March 24 at 2:00 pm when they travel for a rematch with Saddleback College.
