Chargers Lose Conference Opener to Golden West in Extras 7-6

Cypress- The Cypress College baseball team (10-3, 0-1 OEC) opened up conference play with a loss to Golden West (9-5, 1-0 OEC) on Thursday afternoon.

The Chargers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring one run in the first and another two runs in the third inning. However, Golden West was able to tie the game 3-3 with two homeruns in the top of the fourth inning. The Chargers and the Rustlers each scored another three runs to remain tied 6-6 through ten innings. In the top of the eleventh, Golden West center fielder Phillip Knapp, hit an RBI double to score Tyler Depreta and take a 7-6 lead to win the game, as Cypress was unable to score in the bottom of the inning. Despite the loss Chargers second baseman Jack Flansburg continued his great work from the plate. Flansburg had two hits, two runs, and an RBI in his four at bats.

Cypress baseball will resume OEC play on the road Saturday, Feb. 28 when they take on Saddleback at 12:00 pm.
