Baseball Finishes Regular Season with 6-1 Victory

Cypress Calif. – The Cypress College baseball team (25-11, 14-7) closed out the regular season on Thursday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over the visiting Fullerton Hornets (21-15, 10-11). 

The Chargers jumped out to 4-0 lead after three innings, posting one run in the bottom of the second after an Austin Case (2-for-4) RBI single and three runs in the third coming from Jackson Willeford's (1-for-4) three RBI home run, his third homer of the season. Tyler Gnesda (2-for-3) added to the lead with a sacrifice fly that scored Jack Flansburg in the the fifth and a solo home run in the seventh to make it a 6-0 game. The Chargers would allow one run to score in the top of the ninth and go on to win with a final score of 6-1. Cypress pitcher Nathan Kuchta (9-1) led the Chargers from the mound allowing ten hits and one run while collecting four strikeouts though 8.2 innings. 

The Cypress Chargers baseball team was hoping that Thursday's win would make them the Orange Empire Conference Champions but with Golden West's win over Riverside the Chargers finish one game behind the Rustlers and take second place in the conference. Cypress will look to make a run at the State Title when the Regionals begin on May 1st
