Chargers Bounce Back at Home with Win against Golden West
Cypress Calif. - The Cypress Chargers baseball team (15-6, 5-4 OEC) picked up a huge win on Thursday afternoon against visiting OEC opponent Golden West (12-10, 4-5 OEC).
This was the third and final regular season matchup between the two teams. Golden West was able to win the first game 7-6 and the second game 5-4. Both teams came into today's game with a 4-4 OEC record, making this a pivotal game as each team is chasing a conference title. The game started slowly with no runs after two innings. The Chargers got on the board first with two runs scored in the bottom of the third inning and were able to take control with another three runs in the fifth. Starting pitcher Nathan Kuchta (5-1) pitched a shutout through eight innings for the Chargers. Kuchta allowed only six hits and collected nine strikeouts from the mound on the day to lead the Chargers. Golden West was able to rally and score one run in the top of the ninth inning but it wouldn't be enough. Cypress College would go on to win the game 5-1. Jackson Willeford led the Chargers from the plate, going 3-for-3 with one walk and two RBI.
The Chargers will continue OEC play with another big matchup against Saddleback (15-6, 5-4 OEC) on Saturday, March 21 at 12:00 pm.
