Chargers Top Lasers

Irvine, CA --  For the second time in the space of a week the Chargers faced off against Irvine Valley. Saturday's game at Cypress resulted in a 2-1 victory over the Lasers and Tuesday's contest at Irvine resulted in another win for the Chargers, 5-3. 

The scoring started early for the Chargers when in the 1st inning with two outs, Kramer Ferrell singled up the middle to score Jack Flansburg from second base. 

Then in the top of the 3rd with one out, Joe Duffin singled to drive in Brandon Morones from third. Two at bats later, Brandon Oliver got to first on a hit that was mishandled by the Laser infield and scored Matt Tietz from second to put the Chargers up 3-0. 

In the bottom of the 4th, the Lasers managed to bring in two runs to cut the lead to 3-2. 

Cypress answered right back in the top of the 5th with two runs of their own. The first came off a hit by Farrell straight at the Irvine Valley pitcher who wasn't able to get it to the first baseman in time and Matt Tietz came in to score from second. Then Oliver hit a sacrifice fly to center field that drove in Duffin from third to put the Chargers ahead 5-3. 

Irvine scored one more run in the bottom of the 7th to make it 5-3. However they were unable to bring in anymore runs and the final score stood at 5-3. 

Getting the start at pitcher for the Chargers was Ryan Hartman who is credited with the win while pitching 6 innings and throwing 3 strikeouts. He was relieved by Dalton Douty in the 7th who is credited with the save. 

The Chargers improve to 14-10 overall and 5-6 in conference play. They will return home this Thursday (3/27) and Friday (3/28) for back to back games against Riverside. Both games will start at 2pm on the respective days.
