Baseball Handed Tough Loss by Santa Ana

Cypress, CA -- Coming off a excruciating 17-5 loss at Santa Ana on Tuesday, and with desperate need of a victory to increase their playoff chances, the Chargers faced the Dons for the second time in a week, but were dealt a close 9-7 loss.

Cypress took the lead in the 2nd inning after a well placed single into right field by Jack Flansburg scored three Chargers for the early 3-0 lead.

Santa Ana proceded to quickly tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the third. In the 4th, Cypress took the lead back when Jonny Miller first drove in Brandon Morones off a single. Trevor Meleski then doubled to center field which scored Miller. Then Joe Duffin hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Flansburg and take the 6-3 lead.

Santa Ana then went on to score four in the top of the 5th to take their first lead of the game, 7-6. Cypress then tied it up at 7-7 in the bottom of the 5th with a Grant Mayeaux single that brought Matt Tietz home.

Santa Ana then scored one run in the 7th and an additional run in the 8th to bring their lead up to 9-7. Cypress was unable to mount a comeback by the bottom of the 9th which resulted in back to back losses to the Dons.

With the loss, the Chargers must wait for this weekend to know their playoff future.
