Back in the Win Column

Cypress, CA -- Having won just three of their last 11 games coming into Saturday's contest against Irvine Valley, the Chargers were in desperate need of a victory. Although Irvine had the early lead, Cypress battled back for a 2-1 victory.

The Lasers only run of the day came in the 1st inning after Brett Hamilton hit a double that drove Dallas Porter in from second. With the run Irvine went up 1-0.

In the 3rd inning, the Chargers answered back off a Jack Flansburg single to right field that scored Brandon Morones from second to tie things up at 1-1.

Things remained quiet until the 6th when Joe Duffin led off the inning and took the first pitch from Irvine pitcher Jesus Meza deep over the left field wall to put the Chargers in front, 2-1.

The scored remained 2-1 in favor of the Chargers at the end of the top of the 9th to put Cypress back in the win column. Charger pitcher Steven Kane stayed in the game all 9 innings to pitch a complete game. He threw eight strikeouts, allowed one run, and five hits in the win.

The Chargers will face Irvine Valley again this coming Tuesday on the road. Game time will be at 2pm on the Laser baseball field.
