Chargers Drop Second Game in a Row

Riverside, CA. -- In a game that was originally slated to be played at Cypress, Tuesdays game against Riverside was moved to be played at Riverside due to extremely wet field conditions at the Cypress field. The Chargers fell behind late in the game and could not regain the lead resulting in a 4-3 loss. 

With one out in the top of the 2nd, Brandon Oliver singled to center field which drove in Joe Duffin from third to put the Chargers up 1-0. 

In the bottom of the 4th Riverside evened things up after a Tiger runner scored from third during a double play pick-off to make it 1-1. 

Cypress regained the lead in the 6th, 2-1, when Joe Duffin scored Kramer Ferrell from third on a single to right-center field. 

In the bottom of the 6th Riverside scored a run from 1st base after an RBI triple. Later in the inning with no outs, they loaded the bases and Nathan Kuchta walked two consecutive Tiger batters to make the score 4-2 Riverside. 

The Chargers tried to rally in the top of the 8th when Jack Flansburg scored from third on a wild pitch to make it 4-3. They were unable to add any runs in the 9th and the game ended in a victory for Riverside. 

Dalton Douty got the start and the loss for the Chargers. He pitched 5 innings, striking out 2 batters and allowing 7 hits. He was replaced by Nathan Kuchta in the 6th who threw 1 1/3 innings, throwing 2 strikouts and allowing 1 hit. Also seeing time at pitcher for the Chargers were Jon Forsythe, Ricky Schafer and Jaret Vermillion

The Chargers now fall to 10-6 overall and 1-2 in conference. They now travel to square off against Fullerton Thursday (3/6) at 2pm. The last time they faced Fullerton was in the 2013 State Finals. Cypress won the match-up and claimed the 2013 State Championship.
