Chargers Claim Third Win in Victory Over Long Beach

Cypress, CA -- In their fourth game of the season, the Chargers welcomed Long Beach to their home field Tuesday afternoon. Cypress scored first in the third inning and never gave up the lead on their way to a 6-3 victory. 

Jaret Vermillion started the game at pitcher for the Chargers. In the five innings he pitched, he allowed no hits and struck out two Long Beach batters. Also appearing in the game at pitcher for Cypress were Blake Mitchell, Zack Ortiz, Payton Lobdell and Nathan Kuchta who picked up the save for the Chargers.

Cypress went up 1-0 in the third after a Jack Flansburg RBI that scored Jonny Miller from third. In the fourth Brandon Morones hit a 2 RBI single that scored both Kramer Ferrell and Tyler Gnesda. In the next at bat, Austin Case hit a two run homerun that drove in Morones. In the fifth, Jack Flansburg hit a solo homerun to put the Chargers up 6-0.

Cypress has hit at least one home run in each of their four games this season For the season, they have hit a total of seven homeruns.

Long Beach staged a rally in the eighth when they were able to drive in two runs to shorten the Cypress lead. They were able to score one more run on the final play after the Vikings Ryan Dickison singled to drive in a run. On the same play however, Dickison was thrown out at second to end the game. 

The Chargers improve to 3-1 overall with eight games remaining until they begin conference play. 

Up next, the Chargers head to the Dave Buttles Memorial Desert Tournament hosted by the College of the Desert. Cyress will first face San Bernardino on Thursday (4/30) at 4:30pm.
