Cypress tops Santiago Canyon

Orange, Calif. -- The Chargers are now locked atop the Orange Empire Conference standings with Santiago Canyon after beating the Hawks on their own field Friday afternoon, 2-1. It was a showdown from the begining as Santiago Canyon came into the game ranked #1 and Cypress was ranked #2. 

Santiago opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a goal that gave them the 1-0 lead. However, Cypress did not let that lead last for long as they answered with a goal by Kary Mercado in the 38th minute. 

Cypress then went up 2-1 after Kylie Redmond found the goal in the 46th minute. At the half the score stood at 2-1. 

The rest of the game was a standstill as both teams fired, but came up empty. Cypress had 34 total shots to Sactiago Canyon's 17.

It was a hard fought, scrappy game as 24 fouls and 2 yellow cards were handed out to Santiago Canyon and 18 fouls and one yellow card were given to Cypress.

The Chargers return to Ray Haas Field this Tuesday, Oct. 15th, against Fullerton for a 3pm match-up. Come out and support your Chargers!
