Chargers Post Shutout on Dons

Cypress, Calif. -- The Chargers moved into second place overall in the conference with an impressive 5-0 victory over the visiting Santa Ana Dons on Tuesday. 

Cypress dominated play from the beginning. In the eighth minute Kimberly Gonzalez snuck one past the keeper to put the Chergers up 1-0. Assisting on the goal was Jade Perez.

A fee moments later Perez then put in a goal, assisted by Kylie Redmond, in the 19th minute that gave Cypress the 2-0 lead. Danielle Taylor then got in on the scoring when she hit the back of the net on a goal assisted by Alex Moctezuma in the 36th minute and Cypress took the 3-0 lead into the break.

As the second half began Santa Ana began to penetrate the Cypress defense and came close to scoring a few times, however Charger goalkeeper Chloe Sutkowski had a solid game keeping Santa Ana from scoring throughout the match. 

For the Chargers in the second half, Perez got another goal that was once again assisted by Redmond in the 66th minute. Alex Ishihara would then put in the final goal for the day when she slipped a shot past the goalie in the 87th minute. Kimberly Gonzalez is credited with the assist. 

The win improves the Chargers conference record to 4-1-1 and their overall record to 5-3-2. On Friday, Oct 11, the Chargers travel to rival Santiago Canyon for an OEC showdown as it will feature the #1(Santiago Canyon) and #2(Cypress) ranked conference teams. The match will begin at 3pm.
