Chargers Softball Captures 20th OEC Championship!

Cypress Calif. - The Cypress College softball team (32-8, 18-3 OEC) wrapped up their regular season on Wednesday with a 9-1 victory over Riverside to become the 2015 Orange Empire Conference Champions. This year's championship is the 20th in the history of the softball program at Cypress College, all coming under the leadership of head coach Brad Pickler. 

In the final game of the regular season, the Chargers took a one run lead in the bottom of the first inning after Alejandra Guillen (2-for-2) hit an RBI double to right field. Riverside would respond with a run of their own in the second and tie the game 1-1 after an RBI double from Michelle Paul (2-for-2). Cypress took over the game in the bottom of the third inning, scoring eight runs to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Taylor Pierce (2-for-3) highlighted the third inning rally with a three RBI double hit deep to left field. Both teams would remain scoreless through the rest of the game and Cypress would win in five innings with a final score of 9-1. Taylor Ebner (9-2) led the Chargers from the mound, allowing only six hits and one run with two strikeouts in five innings. 

Cypress will head to the first round of the Regionals, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3. More information about the postseason will be available at Sports.CypressCollege.edu after seeding is announced.
