Chargers Go 2-0 in Saturday Double Header

​Cypress Calif.- The Cypress College softball team (14-3, 6-1 OEC) won both of their games against Grossmont (9-10-1) on Saturday afternoon.

In the first game of the day the Chargers jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Grossmont with two runs scored in the bottom of the second, one in the third, and another run in the fourth. Heading into the top of the seventh, the Chargers 4-0 lead was in jeopardy. Grossmont was able to rally and score three runs in their final at bat, but it wouldn't be enough and the Chargers would go on to win the game 4-3. Jezz Portillo led the Chargers with a perfect performance from the plate. Portillo went three for three in her at bats , scored one run, and had one RBI. Taylor Pierce got the win for Cypress after allowing five hits and three runs in six innings and Taylor Ebner collected her fourth save of the season from the mound. 

In the second game, Grossmont started off early with a run scored in the top of the first inning. However, the Chargers would score three runs in the bottom of the first and take control of the game. Grossmont was able to score another run in the top of the fourth. Cypress would respond with another three runs in the bottom of the inning, two of which came off walks with the bases loaded.  Taylor Pierce added the exclamation point in the sixth inning with her team leading fifth home run of the season. Cypress would go on to win the game, 7-2. Pierce led the Chargers with three hits, one run, and two RBI. Alejandra Guillen (4-0) remains undefeated on the season from the mound after allowing five hits and two runs in six innings pitched.

The Chargers are back in action Sunday, March 8 at 1:00 pm when they host Bakersfield (7-3).
