Cypress- The Cypress Chargers softball team (8-3, 3-1 OEC) defeated Santiago Canyon Hawks (7-3, 2-2 OEC) 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon. 

Both teams started off slow and remained scoreless through the first three innings. Cypress got on the board first with a run scored by Alejandra Guillen in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Chargers held on to their 1-0 lead heading into the seventh, but the Hawks were able to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the seventh inning. The Chargers were able to rally and load the bases in the bottom of the seventh with only one out. Tobi Salzman hit a pop fly to the short stop and reached first base on an error allowing Kathy Villa to score the game winning run.

Taylor Pierce (5-1) pitched a complete game to lead the Chargers from the mound. Pierce allowed only five hits and one run through seven innings pitched while amassing 10 strikeouts in the process.

The Chargers will continue OEC play on the road as they take on Golden West on Friday, Feb. 27 at 3:00 pm.
