Chargers Softball Defeats Cerritos 6-4

Cypress Calif. – The Chargers Softball team (19-4, 9-2 OEC) defeated non-conference opponent Cerritos College (14-9) 6-4 on Saturday afternoon to capture their third straight win. 

Cerritos Jumped out to an early 3-0 lead over the Chargers with three runs scored in the top of the second inning. However, the Chargers were able to respond with a run scored in the bottom of the inning followed up by an additional three runs scored in the third, highlighted by a hard hit RBI single to centerfield by Alexis Carmona to take a 4-3 lead. Cypress would add an additional run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-3. Cerritos kept at it and was able to pick up their only run after Taylor Pierce had taken over on the mound late in the second inning to make it 6-4. The Chargers were able to hold on and get the win 6-4 over the Falcons. Taylor Pierce (11-3) allowed two hits, one run, and collected seven strikeouts in her six innings pitched for the Chargers. First baseman Alejandra Guillen led Cypress from the plate collecting three hits in her three at bats.

Chargers softball will continue their home stand this week when they take on Golden West on Wednesday, March 25 at 3:00 pm followed by Saddleback on Thursday, March 26 at 3:00 pm.​
