Chargers Defeat Riverside With Mercy Rule in 5 Innings 9-0
​Cypress Calif.- The Cypress College softball team (12-3, 6-1 OEC) picked up another conference win on Friday afternoon over Riverside (6-11, 2-5 OEC).
The Chargers came out swinging early and put up three runs in each of the first three innings to take a 9-0 lead over Riverside heading into the top of the fourth. Eight of the nine runs were earned for the chargers including a highlight solo home run hit by catcher Jezz Portillo in the bottom of the third. Portillo finished the game with two hits and three RBI to go along with Alejandra Guillen's game leading three hits and two runs scored. Starting pitcher Taylor Ebner (2-1) received the win for the Chargers after allowing only one hit and one walk in four innings pitched.
The Chargers will remain at home for their next three games, including a double header onSaturday, March 7 against Grossmont (9-8-1). The first game is scheduled for 12:00 pm and the second game will start at 2:00 pm.
