Chargers Defeat Golden West in 5 Innings 9-1

Cypress Calif.- The Cypress College softball team (20-4, 10-2 OEC) defeated Golden West (6-20, 2-11 OEC) in their conference match-up on Wednesday afternoon.

The Chargers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning after a triple to left field hit by Justice Walker scoring Jezz Portillo, followed by a Kathy Villa sacrifice fly that scored Walker. Cypress added two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the third inning when Taylor Pierce hit an RBI double to left field, followed by an RBI single to center field from Jezz Portillo. The Chargers were able to extend their lead to 8-0 with another four runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a 2 RBI double hit by Justice Walker. The Rustlers would get their first run on the board in the top of the fifth inning to stay alive, but Cypress would end the game in the bottom of the fifth with an Alina De La Isla sacrifice fly to win 9-1 in five innings. ​

Taylor Ebner (4-1) led the Chargers from the mound allowing only four hits and one run, while collecting two strikeouts in 17 at bats. Shortstop Khailey Campos and right fielder Justice Walker led the Chargers from the plate. Campos had three hits, three runs, and one RBI while Walker had two hits, one run, and three RBI.

The Chargers will resume OEC play against Saddleback (13-10, 7-5 OEC) on Thursday, March 26 at 3:00 pm.
