Cypress Softball Charges into Super Regionals

Cypress Calif. - The Cypress College softball team wrapped up their best-of-three regional playoff series with a 2-0 sweep against Rio Hondo on Sunday afternoon. The Chargers took game one 13-0 in five innings on Saturday followed by a 4-1 victory on Sunday to advance.

Game one- The Chargers dominated the first game of their series against Rio Hondo as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning. Cypress added three additional runs in the second, highlighted by a Justice Walker (2-for-3) two-run homer, and another run in the third from a Walker RBI single. The Chargers had a total of seventeen hits and gave up zero hits in the five innings played. Taylor Pierce (17-5) received the win for Cypress after pitching a three inning no hitter with five strikeouts. The 13-0 victory is the largest postseason win for Cypress since their 15-1 win over Saddleback in 2010.

Game two- Cypress started off the game strong again, scoring four runs in the first inning highlighted by a Taylor Pierce (2-for-3) solo home run. Rio Hondo did not back down from Cypress and held them scoreless for the rest of the game. The Roadrunners got on the board in the fifth when 2B Rachel Bustillos hit an RBI double to right field scoring Lauren Coronado. Chargers pitcher Taylor Ebner (10-2) received the win, allowing only four hits and one run in four innings. Taylor Pierce collected her second save of the season.

The Chargers will look to add to their six game winning streak when the head to Super Regionals on May 8-10.
