Cypress- The Cypress softball team (2-0) won its home opener on Wednesday afternoon, defeating previously unbeaten El Camino (5-1) 3-2.
The Chargers captured an early lead after Briana Gonzalez brought in two runs. El Camino got on the board in the top of the third to close within 2-1, but Cypress extended its lead to 3-1 when Jezz Portillo crossed the plate in the bottom of the inning.
Taylor Pierce (1-0) led the Chargers from the mound with a total of six innings pitched, allowing only three hits and two earned runs.
On Tuesday in the 2015 season opener, the team faced a 7-3 deficit at Cerritos and were able to come back and win it in the ninth inning. The amazing comeback was capped off by Pierce's three run homer in the ninth inning.
The Chargers will continue their home stand with two games this Saturday.The first match-up is against Rio Hondo at 11:00 am, followed by a game against Canyons at 3:00 pm.
