Former Associate Head Coach Dennis Blas Takes Over HIU Softball Program

Dennis Blas has been named the new head coach of the NAIA Hope International University softball team. Coach Blas spent the last 15 seasons as the associate head coach for the Chargers, alongside head coach Brad Pickler.

Over the past 15 seasons Coach Blas has been a large part of establishing one of the top junior college softball programs in the country. Blas has helped lead the Chargers to four CCCAA State Championships and 13 Orange Empire Conference Championships, including last season. He has played an essential role in the development of over 50 student athletes that have moved on to play softball at four-year universities. His numerous years of experience around high level athletes have prepared him to be a successful recruiter, coach, and mentor at the next level.

Hope International University is hoping that Coach Blas will be able to turn their softball program around after two straight losing seasons. The Royals ended last season with a 9-48 record, picking up only one win in GSAC play. With Blas's strong ties to the OEC, experience recruiting in Orange County, and his proven ability to win, it is believed that he will get the job done for the Royals.
