Women’s Basketball Falls to IVC, 71-64

Cypress – The Cypress women's basketball team (15-6, 3-1 OEC) dropped its first conference game of the season on Wednesday night, falling to Irvine Valley College (17-3, 4-0 OEC) 71-64.

The Chargers held a 10-point lead at the break (42-32) after leading by as many as 12 in the first 20 minutes of play. The Lasers' defense stifled Cypress after the break as IVC held the Chargers to just nine points in the first 14 minutes of the second half. IVC used a 21-9 run to take the lead at 53-51 with just over six minutes remaining and never trailed after that point.

As a team, the Chargers shot just 9.5% from the three-point line (2-of-21) and 37% from the field (27-of-73). Haley Gorman led the team with 21 points, narrowly missing a double-double as she grabbed nine boards. DeShields Fajardo also scored in double-figures, chipping in 13. Vivian Lara also added 10 points and was the No. 2 rebounder with eight boards.

The Chargers will hit the road for their next two games, first facing Fullerton (14-5, 3-1 OEC) on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7:00 pm and then Orange Coast (3-15, 0-4 OEC) on Wednesday, Jan. 28, also at 7:00 pm.
