Women’s Basketball Defeats Riverside, 69-66

Cypress – The No. 16 Cypress women's basketball team (14-5, 2-0 OEC) defeated Riverside (12-5, 1-1 OEC) on Friday evening, 69-66, to remain undefeated in conference play. The Chargers have now won nine straight over the Tigers, dating back to the 2010 season.

As she has done many times this season, Jeana Maganã recorded a double-double to lead the team in scoring (20) and rebounding (12). The sophomore also led the team in blocks with three. Lauren Hong also scored in double-digits, chipping in 10. DeShields Fajardo grabbed seven boards, while leading the team in assists with six.

Riverside led early in the game, but Cypress went into the halftime break up 31-28. The Chargers continued to lead for the majority of the game until the Tigers went ahead 61-60 with 2:50 to play. They led by as many as two, but the Chargers were able to take the lead at 65-64 after Hong made a three-pointer, and hung on to win 69-60.

Cypress will next face Santa Ana (6-11, 0-1 OEC) at home on Friday, Jan. 16 at 5:00 pm.
