
Second Half Surge Not Enough
David Gonzalez's scores 37 in loss to beast Santa Ana
Santa Ana, CA. -- The Chargers traveled to Santa Ana, who is currently ranked #2 in conference, with plenty of motivation to get another win Wednesday night. The Chargers, currently ranked second to last in conference, kept up with the Dons but in the end could not take the lead and received another disappointing conference loss, 89-83.
The Chargers were kept the score close throughout the first half and with two minutes before halftime, Kevin Barnes hit a 3-pointer to put Cypress ahead 33-31. From that point, and into the begining of the second half, the lead changed hands several times and the game stayed close until Santa Ana pulled out in front by 10 with 1:31 left. David Gonzalez then went on to hit a jump shot and three 3-pointers to bring the lead withing four points with :01 left on the clock. Santa Ana however, was able to convert at the free throw line and scored 12 points from the charity stripe in the final 1:30 as Cypress began fouling.
The loss drops Cypress to to 6-15 overall and 1-5 in confernce.
Once again, David Gonzalez led the Charger attack with 37 points while grabbing four rebound and four assists. Jerred Cook added 14 points and six assists and both Mark Townes and Kevin Barnes scored nine points in the loss.
The Chargers will next face off against Irvine Valley at home this Friday. Irvine Valley is ranked #3 in conference and holds a record of 19-3 overall and 4-2 in conference. Tip is set for 7:30pm in Gym II.
