The Cypress Chargers Men's Basketball team hangs on to defeat Compton in overtime...
CYPRESS, Calif. --- It took an extra five minutes to decide the winner between Cypress and Compton on Friday night, but in the end, the Chargers dominated the overtime period by a score of (15-7) and took down Compton by a score of (99-91).
Despite finding themselves down at halftime by a score of 50-43, the Chargers played a very aggressive second half on both sides of the ball.
Cypress forced Compton to 14 turnovers and did an excellent job of executing down the stretch. The Chargers also shot 41.4% from three point range and drained 12 out of 29 on the night.
David Gonzalez led Cypress in scoring with 28 points. Out of those 28 points, 18 came from three point shots. Gonzalez also managed to go 6 for 6 at the free throw line.
Mark Townes led the Chargers with nine assists and also scored 10 points of his own.
Kevin Barnes shot 6 for 11 from the field and was the second leading scorer on the night behind Gonzalez with 20 points.
Jesse Henderson-Lewis led the Chargers in rebounding and made some great defensive stops down the stretch. Henderson played with great intensity and made his presence known in the second half.
The (1-1) Chargers face West LA on Saturday, Nov. 9th at 4:30 pm.
