CERRITOS, CA – The Cypress College women's volleyball team (7-1) finished second at the Cerritos Invitational this past weekend. The defending tournament champion Chargers still managed to pick up some huge wins, including victories over Glendale, San Bernardino, Cerritos, Long Beach City, and Canyons.

Cypress matched up with Mira Costa in the Tournament Final on Saturday night. The Spartans eliminated the Chargers in the 1st round of the SoCal Regional last season and found a way to hand the Chargers their first loss of the season this year (22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 23-25).

Freshman setter Samantha Martinez and sophomore outside hitter Rockelle Gholson had standout tournament performances for the Chargers. In 6 matches Martinez tallied a team leading 247 assists and 19 aces while Gholson led the team with 64 kills.

Women's volleyball is set to begin OEC action on the road against Santa Ana College this Friday at 6:00pm.
