Lady Chargers Advance

CYPRESS, Calif.  ---  After falling short in round one vs. the Moorpark in 2013, Cypress got revenge on the Raiders and defeated them by a score of 75-56 on Wednesday night.

Denshay Wallace led the offensive push for Cypress in the first half with her 11 points on 3 of 7 shooting while Haley Gorman followed right behind with 10 points of her own.

The Lady Chargers headed into the locker room at halftime with a 10 point lead and a lot of momentum considering they out rebounded the Raiders 20-12.  Cypress also held Moorpark to a 34% first half shooting performance.

The second half story for the Chargers belonged to Megan Hanson and Haley Gorman.  Hanson and Gorman connected for six points in a row with less then six minutes to go in the contest, giving Cypress the 20 point lead with close to five minutes left on the clock.

Gorman finished with a double double for the Lady Chargers, scoring 18 points on top of her ten rebounds on the night.  Wallace followed right behind Gorman in scoring with 13 of her own while Katey Kanamoto dropped 10 for Cypress to round out the top scorers.

Megan Hanson finished with six assists on the night and tied her season high once again for the 2013-14 season.

Other notable performances were Lauren Hong's nine points and Ruby Nichols seven points for the Chargers.

On asked about how it felt to win a playoff game, sophomore guard, Megan Hanson had a lot of positive things to say.  "It feels like all of our hard work is paying off," said Hanson.

"We really focused on playing our game and didn't think to much about our opponents game.  Everyone contributed in a big way and we felt unstoppable.  Our next game is a huge game so we're going prepare and play the best that we can."

Cypress (46.6%) also out shot the Raiders (35.5%) on the night and forced 10 Moorpark turnovers.

The Lady Chargers will travel to face the second seeded Mounties from Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday, March 1, with a 7:00 PM tip off.
