GROSSMONT, Calif. ---  The Cypress Chargers trailed by one point at halftime on Sunday against Citrus College and eventually fell short by a score of (63-67) in the first game of the Grossmont Tournament. 

Despite the tough loss, the Chargers shot a solid 43% from the floor and recorded more steals and blocks compared to Citrus.  

The rebounding battle happened to be the difference maker.  Citrus led the Chargers in rebounding and recorded 26 defensive rebounds which limited the second chance opportunities for Cypress.

Haley Gorman went 7-12 from the field and led the Chargers in scoring with 15 points.  Gorman also recorded nine rebounds and five blocks in her 39 minutes of play.

Sharae Moten was second in scoring for the Chargers with 11 points.

After the Sunday loss, the Chargers faced Cuesta in the third place game.  Cypress came out firing on all cylinders, leading Cuesta 35-26 at the half.  Unfortunately, Cuesta was able to come back and win the second half by 12 points, giving the Cougars the 66-63 victory over Cypress.

Haley Gorman led the Chargers once again with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Similar to the first game of the tournament, Moten scored 11 points in 16 minutes of play.

Lauren Hong added nine points for the Chargers while Katey Kanamoto scored eight points to round out the top scorers for Cypress. 

The Chargers travel to play at Irvine Valley on January 8, starting at 7:30 pm.
