Cypress, CA - The Cypress College men's basketball team (15-3, 2-0 OEC) defeated Irvine Valley College (12-6, 0-2 OEC) 72-47 in their Orange Empire Conference home opener.
Jordan Fleck led the Chargers with 18 points and eight rebounds while Jeremy Wright added 16 points and four assists on 6-of-11 shooting. Isaiah Milan led the Lasers with 11 points and three rebounds.
The Chargers stifling defense held Irvine Valley to a dismal 15-percen from the field in the first half and 28-percent for the game. Cypress jumped out to an early double-digit lead thanks to some hot shooting from three-point range, connecting on 8-of-15 attempts from downtown.
Fleck and Wright combined for 23 points in the first half, propelling the Chargers to a 42-14 advantage at the break.
Cypress continued their aggressiveness on both ends of the floor in the second half to capture their first win over IVC since February, 18 2011 (64-62) and their largest margin of victory over the Lasers in school history.
Men's basketball will travel to Saddleback on Wednesday, January 13th and return to action at home against Riverside on Friday, January 15th at 5PM.
