Chargers Advance to Championship Game Against LA Harbor

Irvine Valley Lasers 74 - Cuyamaca Coyotes 71 

The Irvine Valley College Lasers (8-4) opened up day two of the Don Johnson Classic with a 74-71 win over the Cuyamaca Coyotes (1-8). The first eight minutes of the game went back and forth. Cuyamaca would then pull away right before halftime and take a 40-33 lead at the half. Both teams used the three point shot often in the first half with each team connecting on six shots from behind the arc. The Lasers began the second half on an 18-11 run to tie the game at 51 with 14 minutes remaining. Down by 3 with 1.8 seconds left, Cuyamaca drew up a play for Chase Parsons in the left corner but his shot was off the mark and Irvine Valley won the game 74-71. Chase Parsons had a game-high 29 points for the Coyotes while Chris Lott led the Lasers with 20 points. 

Victor Valley Rams 67 - Glendale Vaqueros 64

The Victor Valley Rams (7-7) defeated the Glendale Vaqueros (2-7) 67-64 in game six of the Don Johnson Classic. Glendale struggled from the field, shooting 31-percent including 1-of-10 from downtown. They struggled taking care of the ball committing 10 first half turnovers enabling the Rams to build a double digit lead at the break, 41-24. The Vaqueros started the second half on a 16-5 run to pull within six points with 14 minutes remaining. Victor Valley became stagnant and settled for jumpers allowing Glendale to hang around with their deficit hovering around six points until the four minute mark when the Vaqueros were able to cut the lead to just one at 57-56. With 15 seconds remaining and the game tied at 64, Victor Valley had a chance to win the game. Joseph Rushing of Victor Valley got fouled and iced the game making both free throws. Teon Carter led the Rams with 19 points. Kenneth Daniel had a double-double for the Vaqueros with 14 points and 14 boards.  

LA Harbor Seahawks 81 - Rio Hondo Roadrunners 77

The LA Harbor Seahawks (5-6) defeated the Rio Hondo Roadrunners (5-8) 81-77 in game seven of the Don Johnson Classic. The Roadrunners used the three point shot to get out to an early 15-8 lead. LA Harbor shot 50-percent in the first half while Rio Hondo shot 40-percent. Rio Hondo's Leo Maidana was a force inside as the Roadrunners fed him the ball often going 4-of-5 from the field scoring 13 first half points. LA Harbor took a 32-30 lead into halftime. The Seahawks were able to stretch their lead to seven at 67-60 with six minutes remaining. Rio Hondo managed to cut their deficit to three with six seconds left but ultimately came up short. Leo Maidana had a game-high 28 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Dushone Brown scored 23 points to go along with nine rebounds for LA Harbor.   
 
Cypress Chargers 69 - Southwestern Jaguars 63
The Cypress Chargers (8-2) closed out the second day of the Don Johnson Classic with a 69-63 win over the Southwestern Jaguars (8-5). The Chargers set the tempo early and did not allow Southwestern to get out in transition to score easy baskets. The Jaguars struggled early with their half-court offense as the Chargers jumped out to a 38-22 lead at the half. The game went back and forth in the second half as the Chargers held a double-digit lead until the four minute mark. Southwestern picked up the defensive intensity and hit some timely three point shots, trimming the lead to five with 50 seconds remaining. Cypress struggled to put the game away down the stretch due to their struggles at the line (12-of-20). However, Cypress would hold on to win 69-63. O'Shae Williams led the Chargers with 13 points while Delano Jones scored 17 for the Jaguars.

Cypress will face Los Angeles Harbor tomorrow at 4:00 PM in the Don Johnson Classic Championship game.
