Chargers Run Through Mt. SAC, 15-5, & L.A. Pierce, 22-6

Cypress, CA- Cypress college baseball (7-2) hosted Mt. Sac (7-1) and L.A. Pierce (3-2) this weekend and the bats stayed hot to say the least. Cypress took care of the undefeated Mt. Sac Mounties, 15-5, on Friday and crushed L.A. Pierce, 22-6, on Saturday afternoon. 

Mt. Sac came into Friday's game (7-0) and dominating every opponent this season. Their pitching staff had only given up more than one run once this season before visiting Cypress. The Chargers came into the game prepared and they showed it from the start. Left Fielder, Andrew Sojka got the scoring started with a first inning homerun. Hayden Schott kept the inning going with a double to center field, and Spencer Serven followed with a triple of his own. The Chargers went into the fifth inning with a 5-1 lead before they blew the doors open on the game. Cypress scored 5 runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning and sixth inning to take a commanding 15-1 lead. The Chargers would go on to win the game, 15-5, after tallying 15 hits and 14 RBI's. Pitcher, Sebastian Diaz, had a fantastic outing throwing 6 innings while only giving up one run.

Cypress picked up where they left off and got out to an early lead on Saturday afternoon. Spencer Serven and Mario Tostado both homered in the third inning to put the Chargers up 6-0. First Baseman, Hayden Winters knocked a bases clearing double in the fourth inning to push the lead to 10-0. Freshman, Mario Tostado got the start behind the plate and took advantage of it. He unleashed a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to notch his second home run of the day. Cypress would go on to win in commanding fashion, 22-6. Raul Herrada got his first win of the season, striking out 5 and throwing 5 innings. Jake Habelitz and Travis Lavendier pitched great out of the bullpen, each throwing one no-hit scoreless inning. 

Up Next: Cypress will play three home games this week where they will host Moorpark (Tuesday @2:00PM), Pasadena City (Thursday @2:00PM), and Merced (Friday @ 2:00PM).
