Chargers Push Streak to 5, Beat Lancers 8-1

Cypress, CA- Cypress college baseball (9-2) hosted the Pasadena City Lancers (5-6) on Thursday afternoon. The Chargers took control of the game early and beat the Lancers, 8-1. 

Sophomore, Trevor Jones got the scoring started in the first inning when he lined a ball down the right field line to score two runs. In the bottom half of the third inning, Hayden Schott smacked a ball up the middle to tack on 2 more runs. As the inning continued the hottest hitter in the OEC, Mario Tostado, launched a home run over the left field wall. This pushes Tostado's OEC home run lead to 4 as the Chargers ended the bottom half of the third up 8-0. Freshman, Sebastian Diaz got his fourth start of the season on the mound for Cypress. Diaz threw a gem of a game, throwing 6 innings while only giving up 2 hits, striking out 3, and giving up 0 runs. Travis Lavendier had a great showing out of the bullpen. Lavendier was called upon with the bases loaded and 1 out. The freshman got an inning ending double play to get the Chargers out of the jam. Cypress would go on to win the game 8-1.

Up Next: The Chargers will be back at Cypress field tomorrow to take on the Merced Blue Devils. First pitch will be at 12:00PM.
