By Robert Nilsen

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's soccer team (12-1-6, 9-0-5 OEC) tied Saddleback College (11-2-5, 8-2-4) 2-2 on Friday at home.

Both teams began the game slowly as it took about twelve minutes for either team to register a shot on goal. The first shot of the game was a goal by Chargers midfielder Taylor Jones assisted by forward Kristen Nolan to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. The Chargers cotinued to dominate Saddleback throughout the first half of the game. Saddleback managed a few shots, but none of them troubled Chargers keeper Angeles Alvarez. Chargers midfielder Cynthia Iniquez put the Chargers up 2-0 in the 27th minute after converting a great pass from Chargers forward Kristen Nolan. The Chargers would go into halftime up 2-0.

The Chargers began the second half on the backfoot as Saddleback pressed up the field looking to get back into the game. In the 68th minute Saddleback forward Connor Steinbeck cut the Chargers lead in half by scoring a goal to make it 2-1 Chargers. Both teams began to generate chances as the game became more hectic and featured back and forth counterattacking play. Late in the game Saddleback defender Rachel Edelstein scored on the counterattack to tie the game at 2-2. Following the tying goal the Chargers continued to attack searching for the game winner. Jones had the best opportunity to win the game in the 88th minute for the Chargers, but her shot was tipped over the bar by Saddleback goalie Dz-Rae Jara as the game ended 2-2.

Women's soccer will return to action on Tuesday, November 8 at Santa Ana College at 3:00 pm.
