Chargers-Hornets Ends In 1-1 Tie

by Robert Nilsen

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's soccer team (8-1-5, 5-0-4 OEC) tied the Fullerton Hornets (2-9-3,0-7-3 OEC) 1-1 on Tuesday at home.

The Chargers began the first half chasing the ball as Fullerton controlled the early possession of the game. Fullerton had the first shots of the game, but none of them troubled the Cypress keeper Angeles Alvarez. Halfway through the first half the Chargers gained more possession and were able to create some looks at goal, but they were unable to break the deadlock as the teams went into halftime 0-0.

In the second half, Cypress midfielder Julissa Zuniga broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when she got on the end of a loose ball in the box to make it 1-0. Fullerton's Tatsiana Loscutoff tied the game a couple of minutes later on a counterattack goal to make it 1-1. The Chargers generated a late opportunity through midfielder Nicole Walters whose shot went through the goalkeeper's hands and almost crossed the line, but the goalie pounced on it to keep it out as the game ended 1-1.

Women's soccer will return to action on Friday, October 21 against Golden West at 3:00 pm.
