CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's soccer team (1-0-1) tied East Los Angeles College (0-3-1) 2-2 at home on Tuesday.

The Chargers started the game well with a couple of chances in the opening minutes. Karina Romero opened up the scoring in the twelfth minute after she received a great pass from Julissa Zuniga. Cypress continued to dominate most of the first half and had several good scoring opportunities that were stopped by East Los Angeles goalie, Penelope Roman, who finished with two saves.

The Chargers came out strong to begin the second half as Gissel Avila found the back of the net (50:22) to give Cypress a 2-0 lead. As the game continued East Los Angeles swung the momentum their way and began to have several goal scoring opportunities that were saved by Cypress goalie Angeles Alvarez, who finished the game with five saves. East Los Angeles broke through with ten minutes left with a goal from Marilyn Castanon which brought the score to 2-1. The Chargers had a hard time containing East Los Angeles as they kept playing balls over the top, which created good goal scoring opportunities and led to a goal in extra time by Maricruz Enriquez to tie the game at 2-2.

Women's soccer will return to action on Friday, September 9 at home against Canada College at 4:00pm.
