Women's Soccer Ties District Rival Fullerton, 2-2

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's soccer team (6-4-2, 5-1-2 OEC) finished Tuesday's anticipated match-up against district rival Fullerton College (7-2-3, 4-1-3 OEC) in a 2-2 tie at home. The result keeps Cypress slotted in second place in the highly touted Orange Empire Conference.

Cypress struggled offensively in the first half, getting just one shot on goal and losing the time of possession battle to the visiting Hornets. Fullerton was able to get three solid looks at goal, but were unable to capitalize as both teams entered the break scoreless.

Fullerton opened up the scoring early in the second half when Brook Morris drilled a shot from outside the box right through the hands of Cypress keeper Melanie Hernandez (48:20).

Chargers' Kristin Avila quickly answered with an equalizer on a pass from Meagan Smith (58:49). Mary Dynda put in the go-ahead goal for Cypress, bending a free kick over the outstretched arms of Hornets keeper Savannah Dyer (61:51).

The Hornets responded with a late header from Tatsiana Loscutoff on the Alyssa Madrigal corner kick (87:14) to spoil the Chargers victory and tie the game 2-2.

Women's soccer will return to action at home on Friday against Golden West College. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
