Chargers Tie Lasers, 2-2

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College women's soccer team finished Friday's matchup with Irvine Valley in a tie, 1-1.

Within the first minute of action, Irvine Valley's Luci Bernal scored the first goal of the game for the Lasers (1:00). Fortunately, the Chargers made a quick recovery, returning the favor with a goal by Margaret Zisk (1:23). Both teams worked to get control back throughout the remainder of the first half, but finished 1-1 at the break.

In the second half, both teams were head-to-head, firing shots at the goal. Irvine Valley's Brenda Chopin came in strong, firing a deep shot into the goal to take the lead 2-1 (61:02). Just minutes later, Chargers' Renae Francis fired a ball that was blocked by the keeper, but managed to find the back of the net on the rebound to tie the game, 2-2 (64:00). The battle continued with both teams looking to get ahead, Irvine Valley's Yvette Belman had a great look at goal that was saved by Chargers' keeper Melanie Hernandez to keep the game tied at two a-piece.

Women's soccer is now 3-1-1 in OEC play, and 4-4-1 overall. The Chargers resume action on the road against Orange Coast College on Tuesday, October 3 at 3:00 pm.
