Chargers Roll Past Riverside 3-1

Cypress, CA- The Cypress College women's volleyball team (18-8, 9-3 OEC) was able to bounce back at home with a 3-1 victory (25-23, 25-20, 24-26, 25-19) over Riverside City College (13-7, 6-6 OEC) on Tuesday night. 

The duo of Madison May and Rockelle Gholson proved to be too much for the Tigers as each posted a double-double. May led the way with 24 kills and 10 digs while Gholson added 18 kills and 13 digs. Cypress setter Amy Crowell made her presence felt as well, posting a career high 54 assists.

Cypress jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set before Riverside answered with a 3-1 run to tie it at 4 a piece. Serving specialist Demi Nicholson sparked a Cypress run with a service ace and the Chargers controlled it the rest of the way to win 25-23. 

Riverside jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the second set before the Chargers would regain control and win 25-20. Cypress kept the momentum going when they took a 10-7 lead in the third set. However, the Tigers would take control and led 24-20 over the Chargers. Cypress was able to rally and tie the game at 24 before Riverside took the set 26-24. 

Cypress was able to regroup in the fourth set and maintained the lead throughout, going on to win the set 25-19 and the match 3-1. The Chargers will travel to take on first place Irvine Valley College on Friday, November 13th at 6:00 PM and return home for their sophomore night on Wednesday, November 18th at 6:00 PM against Saddleback.
