Cypress – The Chargers (2-2) opened up the women's volleyball season at the 1st Annual Kickoff Classic hosted by Pierce College, splitting the weekend tournament at two games apiece.

Cypress College began their tournament run with a tough loss to Palomar College, despite the efforts of sophomore Madison May who led the team in kills (16) and blocks (3) that game. The Chargers had a 2-1 lead, heading into the fourth set, but they failed to close out the Comets. Palomar cruised to a 25-19 win in the fourth set and finished on top with a close 16-14 victory in the final set.

The Chargers took their frustrations out on Bakersfield College in their second match of the tournament with a dominant 3-1 win. May led the team with 22 kills and managed 7 digs while freshman Rockelle Gholson contributed 10 kills and 6 digs. Jordan Adamson (Fr) protected the net on the defensive end, contributing 3 blocks and 6 block assists while sophomore setter Pamela Fa'Alata distributed 50 assists.

The Chargers struggled in their Sunday opener against LA Pierce as the hosts defeated Cypress College 3-0. Losing the opening set 25-22, the Chargers never got in the groove and dropped the next two sets 25-20 and 25-23. Saturday's star Madison May was held to only 9 kills, while the entire team only managed 23 kills and 2 blocks total.

The tournament ended on a brighter note as Cypress managed to avenge their Saturday loss in a rematch against Palomar College. After falling 2-1, the Chargers established their authority 25-17 in the fourth set and closed out the final set 15-11 to take home 3rd place. May bounced back with 24 kills and 6 service aces while Fa' Alata delivered 44 assists to finish the series.

Cypress College will play their next game on Friday, September 11th at Cerritos College in the Cerritos Tournament. Time of the match will be announced.
