Lasers Stun Chargers in 3-0 Sweep

Cypress- The Cypress College volleyball team (14-6, 5-1 OEC) was swept (25-21, 25-16, 25-20) at home by Irvine Valley (8-4, 5-1 OEC) on Wednesday night.

The first set between the Chargers and the Lasers was the most competitive of the night as the teams battled back and forth. Ultimately a 4-0 run by Irvine Valley would be enough to put the Chargers away in the first set 25-21.

The Chargers trailed 12-9 early in the second set until Madison May and Jazmyn Covington had back-to-back kills to bring Cypress within 1. The Lasers did not let up and went on a 5-0 run to take a 17-11 lead. The IVC run seemed to take the wind out of the Chargers sail as Irvine began to capitalize on Cypress mistakes, including a rotation violation. Irvine Valley would go on to take the second set 25-16.

The Lasers jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the third set and never looked back. Cypress was able to rally late and pull within 4. However, It would not be enough to finish the comeback as Irvine Valley put the match away with a 25-20 victory in the third and final set. Cypress was held to 29 kills as a team and are now 0-4 on the season when totaling less than 30 kills in a match.

The Chargers still find themselves in great position to compete for a conference title with three teams now sitting at 5-1 (Cypress, Irvine Valley, and Fullerton). Cypress will look to bounce back on Friday, October 23rd when they travel to take on Saddleback at 6:00pm.
