Irvine Valley Defeats Cypress 2-1

Cypress- The Cypress College men's soccer team (3-10-1, 1-6 OEC) was unable to overcome a late second half goal from Irvine Valley (8-2-4, 5-0-2 OEC) in a 2-1 loss at home.

The Chargers put forth a great effort against first place IVC on Tuesday afternoon but it wasn't enough to get a much needed conference victory. The Lasers took an early 1-0 lead when Jose Rivera found the back of the net thanks to a Toby Waterman assist. Cypress was able to tie the game before halftime when Dragan Maksimovic found Arturo Olivo, who booted a close range shot past the keeper.

The Chargers had their opportunities to take the lead in the second half but were unable to capitalize. Cypress outshot the Lasers 17 to 14 and had 3 more shots on goal than Irvine Valley. However, the Lasers took advantage of their openings and this time Toby Waterman found himself on the receiving end of a Jose Rivera cross to put IVC up 2-1 (76:33). Cypress was unable to come up with an equalizer and the Lasers escaped with a victory.

The men's soccer team will resume play on Friday, October 23rd at 3:00 pm when they travel to take on Golden West.
