Chargers Break Even With Spartans

Cypress College men's soccer opened up the season with a thrilling 2-2 tie against Miracosta College. The Chargers found themselves down 2-0 against the hosts at the 48th minute, but rallied back with two goals in the final 16 minutes of the match.

The Spartan's forward, Kyle Souza, opened up the scoreboard with an unassisted goal in the 19th minute.  Three minutes into the second half, Chargers' goalkeeper Louis Espindola received a yellow card after fouling a player inside the penalty area. Souza took advantage of the penalty opportunity to double Miracosta's lead.

The Chargers fought their way back in the game after freshman Hawe Yonas scored the school's first goal of the season in the 74th minute. With the clock winding down to injury time, Hugo Toledo assisted Jesus Rodriguez for the game-tying goal to close the match.

Cypress College is now 0-0-1 and will be playing their next game on Tuesday, September 1st against Glendale Community College. The match will start at 7 p.m. PST.
