Nathan Rodriguez Signs With Milwaukee Brewers

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College baseball program has seen more than 120 players selected in the MLB draft, including 15 players who have reached the major leagues. Freshman catcher Nathan Rodriguez will join the long list of Chargers to move on to the professional ranks.

Rodriguez was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 21st round (621st Overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft. The All-Orange Empire Conference Second Team selection chose to forgo his sophomore season at Cypress and signed with the Brewers in June. Rodriguez is currently playing rookie ball for the Helena Brewers, where he is batting .302 with 16 RBI and 3 HR in 29 appearances.

The El Dorado High School alumnus was selected in the 39th round by the Colorado Rockies in the 2014 MLB draft. He chose not to sign with the Rockies in the hopes of increasing his draft stock while attending Cypress College. Rodriguez batted .311 with 51 hits and 31 RBI in 46 games as the starting catcher for the Chargers last season.
