Baseball Advances to Super Regional

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College baseball team (26-12, 12-9) defeated the El Camino Warriors (24-14, 13-8) 4-3 in game two of their best-of-three SoCal Regional series on Saturday. The Chargers will advance to the Super Regionals May 13th-15th. 

Both pitchers went the distance in game 2. Andrew Quezada (7-3) allowed only three eaned runs while collecting five strikeouts to receive the win. El Camino ace, Sebastian Sanchez (9-3), recieved the loss after allowing four earned runs including a two-run homerun. 

The Warriors jumped on Quezada in the first inning with runners on first and third when Nick Sablock (2-for-5) hit into a fielder's choice to bring home a runner. They scored again the next inning with runners on first and third when Noah Barba (2-for-5) singled in another run to give El Camino a 2-0 lead.

The Chargers immediately responded in the top of the third inning to take the lead. With runners on first and third, Bo Coolen (1-for-5) hit into a double play, but managed to bring in the runner to cut El Camino's lead in half. After Willie Aguilar (2-for-4) got on base with a single, Elijah Skipps (1-for-4) hit a bomb over the center field wall for his eighth homerun of the season, giving the Chargers a 3-2 lead.

Paul Gomez (1-for-4) added an insurance run in the fourth inning by bringing Logan Swofford home on a fielder's choice. However, the Warriors fought back in the same inning when Sablock brought a runner home from second base with an RBI single, cutting the Chargers' lead to one run.

Despite a few scares late in the game, Cypress was able to hang on to their lead and close out the series. Information for the Super Regionals next weekend will be posted on sports.cypresscollege.edu and on social media @CypressChargers.
