No. 4 Cypress Hosts No. 13 El Camino in SoCal Regional

No. 4 Cypress Hosts No. 13 El Camino in SoCal Regional

CYPRESS, CA – Cypress College baseball (24-12, 12-9) will host the Southern California Regional as a No. 4 seed against No. 13 seed El Camino College (24-12, 13-8). The two teams will face off in a best-of-three series at Cypress College on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7.

The Chargers earned their postseason spot after finishing second in the Orange Empire conference. Under Head Coach Scott Pickler, the Chargers have won three State Championships despite not finishing first in the OEC (1991, 1997, 2013). Cypress will look to capture that postseason magic again this year.

Elijah Skipps will be counted on to advance the runners and supply power hitting during the playoffs. The former Arizona Wildcat batted .355 this season and leads the team with 7 home runs. On the mound, Tylor Megill will be leading the staff after winning nine games and leading the team with 58 strikeouts.

The El Camino Warriors earned their spot in the regional after taking third place in the South Coast Conference behind champion Long Beach and Cerritos College. Even though the Warriors are a significantly lower seed, they won't be a pushover in the first round. The Warriors defeated the Chargers 2-0 in their only regular season meeting (3/1/16).

Cypress College is 20-9-1 all-time against El Camino, having won four straight prior to this season's loss. The opening game of the series will begin at 2:00 pm on Friday. The second game is scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 am followed by a third and final game (if necessary) at 3:00 pm.
