Chargers Win Ninth Consecutive Game

Cypress, CA - The Cypress College baseball team (9-1) picked up their ninth straight win with a 10-9 victory over Glendale College (8-3) on Thursday afternoon. 

Aaron Case went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and hit his first homerun of the season. Ricky Perez led the Vaqueros with three hits and Troy Mulcahey finished 1-for-4 with 3 RBI. 

Tripp Aversa (1-0) earned his first win of the season for the Chargers after allowing only one hit in an inning at the mound and Marco Quintanar receives the loss for Glendale. 

Lead off man Aaron Case started the game with a single to left field, but advanced to third after a passed ball and a wild pitch. After Cory Wildhagen reached on a walk, Garrett Calvert hit an RBI double to left field, which scored Case. Then Wildhagen would score on a Nick Reeser sacrifice fly to give the Chargers an early 2-0 lead. Case extended the lead for Cypress in the second inning with a two-run homerun, making it 4-0. 

Glendale got on the board in the third inning after a double from Jake Zahorik followed by an RBI double from Frank Garriola. Akins singled to centerfield, scoring Garriola to make it a 4-2 game.  However, the Chargers were able to put another run on the board in the bottom of the third thanks to an RBI single from Nathan Rodriguez. 

The Vaqueros' bats got hot in the fifth inning with Andrew Quezada stepped to the mound for Cypress. With the bases loaded and only one out Cristian Montes batted into a fielder's choice that scored Chris Colarossi. Mulcahey followed that up with a three-run homerun to give Glendale a 6-5 lead. Glendale added three more runs in the inning to take a 9-5 lead over the Chargers. 

Cypress added three more runs to their tally in the bottom of the sixth after a three-run homer from Gonzalez before tying the game at 9 a-piece in the seventh with a sacrifice fly from Case. 

With a man on second and third in the bottom of the ninth Paul Gomez hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to leftfield allowing John Santospago to score the games winning run.

Baseball will return to action this Saturday when they host LA Harbor at 12:00 pm.
