Chargers Take Down Rival Fullerton, 60-53

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress Chargers women's basketball (13-9, 5-2 OEC) hosted in conference rival, Fullerton College (10-12, 3-4 OEC). After a tough first half the Chargers cruised past the Hornets, 60-53, for their second win in a row.

Per usual, Malia Goldsmith led the Chargers on the offensive end scoring 22 points to go along with her seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Tanya Carbajal was huge for Cypress in the second half as she scored 10 of her 13 points in the third quarter. Thao Truong reach double digits for the fifth time this season scoring 11 points. Center, Janelle Ramos of Fullerton had a fantastic night scoring 15 points along with 16 rebounds and 3 blocks as she gave Cypress all they could handle on the inside.

The Cypress offense struggled to score in the first quarter as the length and size of Fullerton disrupted the offense. After the first quarter, the score was 7-4 in favor of Fullerton as the Chargers shot 0-5 from three-point range. The shooting slump contined into the second quarter as Cypress was now 0-10 from three and 8-41 from the field overall. The second half was a different story as the fast paced Chargers offense got running outscoring the Hornets 25-13 in the third quarter and sinking five three-pointers. Cypress went into the final quarter with an eight point lead, 41-33, as Fullerton looked for answers on defense. As Hornets offense picked up the Chargers were able to continually break the press down the stretch to hold on to the victory, 60-53.

UP NEXT: The Chargers hit the road to take on Riverside City College on Friday, February 4th. Tip-off will be at 7PM.
