Cypress Hosts Lady Charger Classic (Dec. 3-Dec. 5)

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress College will host the 38th annual Lady Charger Classic this weekend (Dec. 3 - Dec. 5). The colleges competing in this years classic will be East Los Angeles, El Camino, Palomar, Santa Monica, Compton, Citrus, Grossmont, and Cypress.

Cypress women's basketball (3-4) has gotten off to a slow start as they have faced some tough competition in Northern California. After opening the season with a win on the road at El Camino the Chargers have participated in two tournaments back-to-back weekends. Cypress has gone 1-2 both weekends as they look to improve before the Lady Charger Classic.

After scoring a career high 44 points against Napa Valley, Malia Goldsmith, leads the team with 18.9 points per game. Jaylene Oviedo has become a 1-2 punch with Goldsmith as she averages 13.6 points per game. Goldsmith and Oviedo have done their damage from deep as they both are shooting north of 38% from three-point range. Alexcia Alvarez is contributing to the Chargers on the defensive end as has recorded three steals per game. Thao Truong has been the leading rebounder for the team as she averages 5.4 per game.

Cypress will tip-off against Compton College on Decemeber 3rd at 6pm in their next matchup. The full bracket for the Lady Charger Classic can be seen below.
