Defending State Champions Return to 3C2A State Tournament

CYPRESS, CA - The No. 2 ranked Cypress Chargers Softball team (37-7) secured a spot in the 3C2A State Tournament with a commanding victory over the No. 7 Orange Coast Pirates (27-15) in the Regional Round 2 series.

In game one on Friday, May 10, Cypress took an early lead in the second inning, scoring six runs to establish dominance. The Chargers continued their strong performance, maintaining a 6-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when Kaitlyn Reynolds's two-run hit ended the game in mercy fashion, 8-0.

Game two on Saturday, May 11, saw Orange Coast take an early lead. However, Cypress quickly responded in the fifth inning with Lizbeth Gomez's double to left center, bringing in two runs to take the lead 2-1. The Chargers then exploded offensively, with Ashlynn Ortiz's grand slam highlighting a four-run inning. Ortiz's homer brought in Mikala Jacobsen, Kimberley MacPherson, and Lizbeth Gomez, extending the Chargers lead to 6-1.

With this series victory, the Chargers secure their spot in the State Tournament as the defending 3C2A State Champions. 

UP NEXT: Cypress Softball will travel to West Valley College the week of May 16-19 to compete for their 11th State Championship Title.
